, but obama rice did say herself that with a lot of criticism coming from republicans and specifically john mccain has made some comments about her essentially saying that and that she do a maya culpa and retract what she has said or at least set it right. this controversy isn't going away, but let's listen to what ambassador rice did say. i made clear that it was preliminary, and that our investigation would give us the definitive answers. everyone, particularly the intelligence community, has worked in good faith to provide the best assessment based on the information available. >> it doesn't appear that this will go away. that probably won't end it. as we know, there have been congressional hearings and also we have the fbi investigation and then the state department investigation as well. until those conclude, it may be very difficult to really put an end to this debate. >> jill dougherty, thanks so much. >>> meanwhile, president barack obama delivered his annual thanksgiving address giving thanks for the blessings we all share as americans. >> thanksgiving is a chance to put it all in per

john mccain and lindsey graham have been accusing the obama administration of changing susan rice's talking points, following the benghazi incident. they claim links to al qaeda were left out for political purposes. but on tuesday, their conspiracy theory was blown out of the water. the spokeswoman for the director of national intelligence told cnn the white house wasn't involved in removing the information on al qaeda. he said the intelligence community made the changes. in responding to this report, mccain admitted that he was wrong, but still took a shot at the white house. he said intelligence officials, quote, told us they did not know who made the changes. now we have to read the answers to our questions in the media. this latest episode is another reason why many of us are so suspicious of actions of this administration when it comes to the benghazi attack. meanwhile, his sidekick, lindsey graham, is going into full attack mode. senator graham wrote a letter to president obama on tuesday, saying that he's concerned. many questions remain unanswered on the benghazi attacks.
to escalating show down between republicans and obama administration over its response to deadly terrorist attack in benghazi. u.s. ambassador to united nations susan rice weighed in on her controversial remarks on benghazi just a short time ago, joining us now is fox news correspondent katherine harrage. >> thank you lou. the ambassador to u.n. took the questions it was really quite unexpected she got two on the ben been scandal. and here is her response. >> when discussing the attacks against our facilities in benghazi, i relied solely and scarily on the information provided to me by the intelligence community, i made clear that the information was preliminary. and that our investigations would give us the definitive answers, everyone, particularly the intelligence community, has worked in good faith to provide the best assessment based on the information available. >> reporter: tonight this comes less than a week after a classified session on capitol hill where fox news was told james clapper, head of u.s. intelligence community of definite his team did not make controversial changes to
think that susan rice does not appear before the press, without barack obama and valerie jarrett saying, go ahead and do that. we want you to do that. and reason they want her to do that, i think that president is convinced and determined to nominate her for secretary of state job. lou: all this, what i consider to be utter nonsense, emanating from various quarters of democratic party. officialdom, and you know she ma false statements to the american people, everyone agrees on that, but, the idea that there has not been from the republican party, as much animation and energy, in describing, the contradictions, and lies of david petraeus -- clapper, james clapper, the president himself for crying out loud, these are direct. contradicts, yet she takes the brunt of it to what degree is there on the part of the republicans some culpability for not being as aggressive in their condemnation of the statements of those officials ? >> they are not aggressive enough. but other side is they will not -- why do they put her up front? after results of this elect, and polling data, we all know that re
to add that this was never about susan rice. this is 100% about president barack obama. this is an attack on him. they weren't able to get him during this campaign. they threw everything at him, including the kitchen sink. and he still came out victorious. his approval ratings are going up. and like jim demint said, he said he wanted to break president obama. i believe this to be part of an ongoing strategy to try to do that. >> a number of people have said that these attacks on susan rice are racially motivated. senator graham responded to this earlier today. here it is. >> they say that you and john mccain are sexist and racist as well for criticizing ambassador rice. >> well, when you can't answer the question, you attack the questioner. the only color i'm worried about when it comes to benghazi is red, blood red. the death of four americans. >> bob, what about that? what's your response, to the way graham is handling that? >> first of all, they have answered all the questions. all you have to do is listen to dianne feinstein, the responsible people who have gone to these hearings. joh
out libya came for a killing zone. if it weren't for secretary clinton and ambassador rice pushing obama, it would have been worse. we need to be training a libyan army to replace the militias. i went in september of last year with marco rubio and john mccain and myself went to libya. we came back and said the biggest threat to libya making it is these militias. we need to help the libyans train a national army. they were willing to pay for it. in egypt we really led from behind. this idea of having a hands off policy toward syria is about to blochb the whole region up. the war is coming to israel. it's affecting turkey and other places. so i believe that if they don't lead from the front that syria and iran are going to coming together and we're going to have a major conflict in the mideast. >> what was the best thing we got out the arab spring so far? >> the fact is authoritarian regimes have been overthrown the likelihood they will simply be replaced by other authoritarian regimes or some in some cases, yemen and libya qualify here the countries will descend into anarchy. parts
anybody from being confirmed as secretary of state in the second term of the obama administration, because according to john mccain, u.n. ambassador susan rice, who's a likely candidate for secretary of state, she once said something wrong on the sunday shows. in the days after the attack on the u.s. consulate in benghazi, back in september, susan rice went on the sunday shows and gave the administration's intelligence agency-approved talking points, explaining what the administration thought at that time had happened in benghazi. and that, in john mccain's view, is unforgivable. >> maybe she could start out by publicly coming back on this show and saying, i was wrong. i gave the wrong information on your show some several weeks ago. that might be a beginning. >> but until then, john mccain will block her potential nomination. and anybody's nomination. no secretary of state for the united states of america until john mccain is satisfied. susan rice, for the record, did not give wrong information on the sunday shows. she described accurately what the intelligence agencies were advising her
these things. there is a possibility that president obama will nominate secretary rice. she is obviously caught up in the spirit we may get to the bottom of this thing. we may see resignations towards the end of the year. once again, the mistakes have been made no doubt in my mind. but you have to own up to those mistakes. the government needs to be accountable to the people it serves. martha: was there some sort of bargaining tool here with the president and susan rice? was she saying that i will put you in front of the camera and microphone and you take responsibility for these talking points? or get blamed for a lot of them? and then i will put you in hillary clinton's position as she does resign? >> that is a great conspiracy theory. but i just don't know. my sense of the matter is that she is going to be the president's choice to take president clinton's slot. the united nations had nothing to do with this. it would've been a better choice to go out on the sunday shows and maybe the secretary of defense or the secretary of state or the director of national intelligence, a very odd choice i
the world. now it's up to president obama to do it again. he's won a second term. now he needs to make it great, naming john kerry to replace secretary clinton fits that bill. picking susan rice would be good. picking kerry would be better. since thomas jefferson, the post of secretary of state stands alone in history. despite its nature, a role holding the most stature, but for the president itself. kerry won 252 electoral votes back in 2004 against a sitting chief executive, a wartime president at that. a leading critic of the war in vietnam, a five-time elected senate, the chairman of the senate of foreign relations committee has contacts around the world. he's just the sort of heavyweight obama picked the first time. i say this even as i detest the lynch mob that's thrown itself together this week for ambassador susan rice. the president is right about their bad purposes and bad arguments. they are precisely the same as those used in the swift voting used to keep john kerry from the presidency. they attack her for her early explanation of the horror of benghazi when their real

a lot. go at it. >> i'm glad to give praise to president obama and hillary clinton on this. i would caution the republicans. susan rice has nothing to do with the other. she seems to be involved in a cover-up. we have a cease-fire that has been 24 hours or less. let's see what comes in the months or years to come. if president obama is able to broker a large deal as jim from egypt was saying that needs to be done, then it is a success. right now it is a stop-gap. just a bandage. that's all we have. >> but don't you think it would have been great for them to show support of the international stage of our secretary of state and the president, don't you think. >> i do think that. 15 days after the election they probably supported mitt romney in the election. we as the republican party do need to be the party that has a big tent for the whole spectrum. part of that is recognizing when the president does things that are good. he did in the first term, not a lot, but killing osama bin laden was a success and he will in this term. this is a positive but a positive he has to build on. he ca
